Background

Started MP - 1996
Reason for Starting MP - Really enjoyed competing at youth championships and it was suggested that I began fencing and riding in order to compete in pentathlon - seemed like a good challenge at the time and have been enjoying it ever since. I began training and competing seriously when I started studying at Bath University in 2001.
Sporting Influences -
My Grandparents – They both competed at the Olympic Games in the gymnastics competitions. Joan and George Weedon competed in the London Games of 1948 and George went on to compete in the Helsinki Olympics of 1952. Both were tremendous all round athletes. George was extremely good at diving and had to make a choice between that and gymnastics. They both encourage me into sport and I really admire what they achieved. Althought Joan is no longer with us, I know she'd be as proud as George is, of what I've achieved so far.
Kelly Holmes - As a young athlete I remember my eyes being glued to the television during the 1996 Atlanta Games. I vividly recall watching Kelly Holmes, one of our best medal hopes, limb off the track during her race. It was devastating to watch and I can only image how heart breaking it was for her. I think she is the most amazing athlete, the determination it has taken for her to battle through years of injury. Watching her again, 8 years later finally achieve the success she thoroughly deserved was incredible and proof that dreams do come true! Truely inspiring!
Lance Armstrong - Need I expand??? He is the most amazing athlete. To have such an amazing sporting career, winning the Tour De France 7 times is such a remarkable achievement, but add to that overcoming cancer to race again is something verging on superhuman. He is truely amazing and I really admire the work he does for other cancer sufferers.
